Dean Shearer started the Cold Winter as a solo project in 2015, when he began writing and performing songs. The Cold Winter has gone through various changes since then, and now is a duo, consisting of Dean Shearer and Lorissa Finchum.
Their influences are far and wide. Some notable influences are Bon Iver, Bob Dylan, and Fleetwood Mac. Many of the duo’s lyrics deal with overcoming melancholy and sadness, and presents to listeners a step in the direction of healing. Their music feels like the thawing out after a long cold winter, hence the band’s name. The two sing in unison in order to create one, bigger-than-life voice that neither of them could achieve on their own. Dean and Lorissa wish to remind everyone that even in our darkest night we need not fear, because, eventually, our saving grace will climb down into the darkness and carry us back up into the light.
